Upgrade and Reconstruction project
Additional supercritical power station capacity was proposed starting in 2020.[1] The new units are expected to replace the existing 2 x 210 MW units. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documents noted the current units were heavily polluting and experiencing loss due to low heat demand in the area. So the expanded capacity proposed is planned for another location.[2]
According to a 2022 list of key construction projects, construction on the power plant had begun in January 2022.[3] In September 2022, a foundation laying ceremony was held. The capacity was planned to be completed and put into operation in 2025.[4][5][6]
In March 2023, it was reported that the project had secured funding for capital investment, financing and EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction).[7]
The Henan Nengxin cogen new power station was included in a list of Henan's key construction projects for 2023, noting that construction of the power project was ongoing in March 2023.[8]
In June 2023, the construction period for the plant was listed on a construction news report as 2023-2025.[9] Other reports in mid-2023 stated that concrete was poured into the foundation on 31 May 2023.[10] [11]
