Background
The 112 MW coal-fired power station was proposed by IDI Infrastructure for the city of Kitakyushu. Because of the plant's small size, the EIA was under local assessment. It was submitted in November 2015 and approved in March 2016.[4]
According to the Kiko Network (November 2018), the plant was under construction and scheduled to go into service in February 2019.[5]
Operation began in February 2019.[6]
In April 2023, Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. announced that it acquired management rights to plant and would convert the plant from its current coal/biomass co-firing to a 100% biomass-fired power plant. The news release indicated that Daiwa House was aiming to end coal co-firing in the plant by FY2024 and restart operation in April 2026.[7][8]
