Background

Sukegawa Cement Factory was established at the current location of the plant and cement manufacturing was started in June 1907. It then became Hitachi Cement Co., Ltd. in October 1917, and after a forced merger under the Business Reorganization Order in 1943. It was reinstated as Hitachi Cement Co., Ltd. in October 1947 under the Centralized Concentration Elimination Law, and in January 1953, the company name was changed to Hitachi Cement Co., Ltd.[1]

In 2017, Hitachi Cement Co., Ltd. ceased clinker production at the Honsha Kojo Plant and entered into a business alliance with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation, entrusting the production of clinker and cement to Taiheiyo Cement.[2][3]
