Hlagisa Colliery was a surface coal mine that produced 1.8 million tonnes of coal annually in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.[1]
As of May 2022, the mine has ceased production and is permanently closed.[2]

Background
Hlagisa Colliery was an opencast mine that produced approximately 1.8 million tonnes of coal annually for Eskom consumption.[1] The mine was owned by the South-Africa-based Mwelase Group of Companies, which in 2012, founded Hlagisa Mining Pty. Ltd., which operated the mine. (Umcebo Mining, a subsidiary of Glencore, was a 23% shareholder in Hlagisa Mining.)[1][3]
Mine Closure
According to Glencore's 2023 first quarter production report, the mine permanently closed in May 2022.[2]
