Background

The two existing coal-fired units of Huadian Wuda power station, totaling 300 MW, were brought online in 2005. The plant is majority-owned by China Huadian.[1][2]

In 2011, Huadian sold 27% of the shares in the plant to chemistry Giant, Hubei Yihua, which planned to use the power station for its own use.[3]

Description of Expansion

China Huadian is planning to build additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 1,200 MW, and eventually plans for 1,200 more.[1][4]

In 2015 China Huadian said it was beginning prep work on the project.[5][6]

2016: Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity

Due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled. For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
