Background
Units 1-7 of Huaibei power station, totaling 950 MW, were brought online between 1973 and 1993 and were retired from 2007-2008. The 210 MW Unit 8 is a subcritical unit that was commissioned in 2005. The plant is owned by China Datang.[1]
Retirement
To meet the requirement of "Suspension of smaller units to build bigger ones" policy, Datang Huaibei Power Station shut down its 1-7 subcritical units in 2007.[2] Unit 8 was retired in 2020.[3]
New power station
The capacity of the retired Huaibei power station was replaced by the 1,320 MW Huaibei Hushan power station, located 30km away in the Lieshan District of Huaibei Prefecture. The Huaibei Hushan plant went into operation in 2013.[4]
