Background
Huaneng Haikou power station is owned by China Huaneng. Units 1-2 (50 MW each) were commissioned in 1989 and retired in 2008. Units 4-5 have a combined capacity of 276 MW and were commissioned in 1999-2000. Units 6-7 also have a combined capacity of 276 MW and were commissioned in 1990. Unit 6 was retired in 2010, and unit 7 in 2013.[1]
Huaneng owned majority shares of Zhonghai Energy in 2004, and Zhonghai Energy's Macun Power Plant (completed in 1990) became Units 4-5 of Huaneng Haikou Power Station, as well as units 8-9, completed in 2006-2007.[1]
Units 4-5 are planned for retirement in 2020.[2]
Expansion
China Huaneng has proposed adding 2 x 660 MW ultra-supercritical coal units at the power station (units 10-11). Although the project has yet to get permits, as of 2016 to 2017 there were multiple bids posted for its parts and construction.[3][2]
In 2019 it was reported the units would be gas-fired.[4]
