Background

The plant is majority owned by China Huaneng. The six existing coal-fired units of Huaneng Yueyang power station, totaling 2,525 MW, were brought online between 1992 and 2011:[1]

Description of Expansion

Units 7-8

Huaneng was planning to build at least two additional coal-fired units of 1,000 MW, units 7 & 8, at this plant.[2][3]

The units were scheduled to be completed in 2017.[4][5][6]

However, with no developments since 2014, units 7-8 appear to be shelved.

Units 9-10

China Huaneng has also proposed an additional 2,000 MW of capacity at the power station - units 9 & 10 of 1,000 MW each.[7]

However, there have been no developments on units 9-10 since 2012, and plans appear to be abandoned.
