Background
Original plans called for the Humay power station to be constructed using M501JAC turbines produced by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, on brownfields and redundant agricultural land with access to the Pan American highway, port, and airport in Pisco, Ica, Peru.[13][14]
The plant won environmental approval in 2019[15], and various news reports in 2018 and 2019 indicated that construction was to begin soon and would continue into 2021.[15][16][17]
As of November 2022, outdated information on the website of plant owner Gaz Energie still stated that the plant was construction-ready and that operations were expected to begin by the end of 2020.[14] However, there had been no solid news about the plant's progress since 2019, and it appeared to be shelved.
A document published on January 4, 2024 asked to revise a decision made by the COES to disapprove the pre-operative study of the Humay power station.[2] Based on this document, and on information for the Humay power station hosted in the COES' website[7][11], it appears there is still interest in moving forward with the project, so its status was reverted to announced.
