Background

The Hura C Coal Mine is a proposed 3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) opencast mine in Jharkhand, India. The Hura-C mine is owned by Coal India and once opened, will be operated by Eatern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India.[5]

According to ECL's 2021-2022 annual report, Hura-C, which was initially proposed in 2015, is scheduled to begin operation in March 2023. As of August 2022, the stage II forestry clearance has been obtained and land possession is in progress.[5]
