Background
In 2020, Argus Media reported that three of the plants six units were operational. Romgaz had "de-mothballed 200MW of gas-fired capacity" from its older units "to mitigate continuing technical issues at the site". According to 2021 data from transmission system operator Transelectrica and ENTSOE only two units (4 and 5) are operating.[13][14][15]
430 MW Combined Cycle Unit
In 2017, General Electric announced it had received an order from Duro Felguera for the 430 MW Iernut combined-cycle power plant project. The company stated "work will commence later in 2017, and the new plant is expected to replace the existing plant upon completion in 2019."
Construction was expected to be completed by the end of 2020, however the deadline was not met.[16][17] As of February 2021 the government hopes the plant will be commissioned by the end of 2021.[18]
In April 2021 Romgaz announced they had cancelled the construction contract with Duro Felguera.[19] It's unclear if the plant will be finished.[20] As of October 2021, the plant was reportedly 70% complete and Romgaz expected its completion by the "end of 2022".[21][22]
