Background

Imaloto Coal Mine is a proposed surface and underground mine, owned by Bushveld Minerals Limited, in the Benenitra district of Atsimo-Andrefana, Madagascar, Africa.[1] [2]

The mine will provide power to the proposed Imaloto Coal power station. The Imaloto mine will be operated by Lemur Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bushveld Minerals.[1]

The Imaloto integrated coal-fired power project includes a 136 Mt coal mine, a 60 MW power plant and a new transmission line stretching over 250 kilometres. It is the only coal-to-power solution being developed in Madagascar.[1]

According to Bushveld Minerals, most Social and Environmental Impact Assessment (“SEIA”) studies have been completed and submission to the Ministry of the Environment was expected to occur in the second half of 2021.[1]
