Inaglinsky-2 coal mine (Шахта Инаглинская-2) is a proposed underground mine in Republic of Sakha, Russia.
Location
The satellite photo below shows the exact location of Inaglinskiy Mining Complex, 33km North of Neryungri in the Chulmakanskoye coal mining field in South Yakutia.
Background
The Inaglinsky-2 coal mine is developed by GOK Inaglinskiy JSC, which is owned by Kolmar.
It is part of the Inaglinskuy Mining Complex (Инаглинский ГОК) which also includes the Inaglinskiy Surface coal mine and Inaglinsky-1 coal mine.
The project is Phase 2 of Inaglinsky-1 coal mine, which was commissioned in September 2020.[1] The capacity of Phase 2 is also 6 million tonnes, the capacity of the washing plant Inaglinskaya-2 will be the same. It appears that the planned commissioning date has been shifted from 2022 to 2023.[2] When Phase 2 is commissioned, it will be the largest underground mine in Russia.[1] But the IEA has reported the expansion may be 8 million tonnes.[3]
As of September 2022, construction of Phase 2 was under way. The ventilation and conveyor shafts were being driven. On the site of the future building of the processing plant, the installation of metal structures and sandwich panels was being completed. A contract was signed for the supply of process equipment and engineering structures with Chinese partners.[4] In April 2023 it was reported that the reaching full capacity of the complex is expected in 2024.[5]
Coal from the Inaglinsky mining complex is exported via the VaninoTransUgol coal terminal, which is owned by Kolmar and began operating in 2020.[6] The terminal, together with the mines and the washing plant, completes the creation of the unified production and logistics complex. Coal exports are targeted at the Asian Pacific region, in particular at China and Japan. About 70% of coking coal shipments are to China.[6] As of September 2022, Kolmar was also conducting contract negotiations with the largest state-owned and private metallurgical companies in India.[4]
As of January 2024, construction of Inaglinsky Phase 2 appeared to be on-going.[7] As of October 2024, there was no news on the status of the project. A media report on Kolmar's activities from October 2024 did not specifically mention Phase 2 expansion of the mine, only referring to the general plan to increase coal production.[8]
