Background
India Cements was established in 1946 and has build over eight plants in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and two grinding units in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra over the seven decades of its operations.[1][2] In December 2024, UltraTech acquired India Cement Limited.[3]
The Sankari West Cement plant was the company's second plant, established in 1963 at a capcity if 0.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).[1][4] The plant was expanded to a capacity of 0.6 mtpa in 1971.[4] The manufacturing at the plant was converted to dry process in 2007.[1][4]
