Background

India Cements was established in 1946 and has build over eight plants in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and two grinding units in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra over the seven decades of its operations.[1][2] In December 2024, UltraTech acquired India Cement Limited.[3]

The company established its first cement plant at Sankarnagar in 1949 at a capacity of 0.1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).[1][4] The plant was expanded to a capacity of 0.9 mtpa in 1969.[4] The manufacturing process at the plant was converted to modern dry process and the capacity increased to 1 mtpa in 1990.[1][4] In 2012, the company commissioned a 48 MW captive power plant at the Sankarnagar cement plant.[5]
