Background information

By the beginning of 2017, the Iyanga complex — which includes the Klipfontein, Welgelegen, and Leeuwpoort Collieries — employed over 1,000 employees and mined over 500,000 tons of coal per month.[2] The company focuses on the coal industry with operations in the Mpumalanga area and a key focus on the Delmas, Witbank and Middelburg Coal fields.[2]

Prior to 2021, the complex's mines were owned by various companies, including Eyethu Coal and Iyanga Mining Limited.[3] However, in early 2021, the Beryl Group's mining sector acquired 100% stakes in the coal business with Eyethu and Iyanga.[4][5]
