Background
In October 2023, JSW Steel announced its intention to create a low-carbon steel production enterprise by 2030. The production capacity of the enterprise will be 4 million tons per year, production is planned to start by 2030. The project will be implemented in two stages. The first phase (with a capacity of up to 2 million tons per year) should be completed shortly before 2030, the second phase of construction will continue and may take another one or two years. JSW’s investment in the facility will be in addition to the INR 10,000 crore (US $1.34 billion) the company has earmarked for its plans to transition to green energy solutions.[1]
In February 2024, JFE Steel Corporation and JSW Steel Limited established JSW JFE Electrical Steel Private Limited, a joint venture company for grain-oriented electrical steel in India and held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 12 at a site in Bellary in Karnataka, India. The facility is expected to start production by fiscal 2027.[2][3]
