Background on Mine

Jagannathpur is an opencast mine, once owned by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, with a capacity 3.5 million tonnes per annum.[6]

The environmental clearance for the project was granted in February 2018[7] and the project was sold at auction to its current owner in 2019. There have been no updates on the project since, but the Ministry of Coal listed it operating in 2020.
