Background
The LNG terminal project is built on a land-filled artificial island offshore of the city of Rudong. Two other LNG Terminals, Rudong LNG Terminal and Rudong LNG Terminal (Jiangsu Guoxin), are also located in this island named Yangguang Island or Sunshine Island.
Jiangsu LNG Terminal connects to the West-East Gas Pipeline which delivers gas to the central and eastern regions of China as well as to the Shaan-Jing pipeline delivering gas to Beijing and the provinces of Shanxi, Hebei, and Tianjin. Phase I began construction in 2008 and operations in November 2011.[2] It includes three 160,000 cubic meter storage tanks capable of receiving 3.5 mtpa of LNG.[5] Phase II started construction in 2014, and in 2015 this 3.5-mtpa capacity expansion was successfully put into operation.[3]
Phase 3 began construction in Nov 2018. It will build 2*200,000 cubic meter gas storage. The operating date was set at 2021.[6][7]
In September 2021, Phase 3 became operational.[4] The total receiving capacity exceeded 10 mpta.
As of September 30, 2022, Rudong LNG Terminal has received and unloaded 565 LNG ships, with a total of 47.106 million tons (66.19 billion cubic meters). The export of natural gas exceeded 62 billion cubic meters, equivalent to 13 years of civil gas supply in Jiangsu Province. Since its operation in 2011, Jiangsu LNG Terminal has received LNG resource from 25 countries and regions such as Qatar, Australia and Russia on the "Belt and Road".[8]
Jiangsu LNG terminal is planning the fourth phase of the project, including another LNG storage tank. The supplying capability will increase by 30% if phase 4 built.[9]
该站还在加紧推进四期工程,计划再建一座LNG储罐及相应的配套工艺设施,实现天然气供应保障能力提升30%,接卸、储存、气化、外输能力均达到1000万吨级。[9]
