Background
From 2002 to 2008 Pacific Coast Coal Corp. (PCCC) notified the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) that it intended to resume production at the mine, which had been operational from 1986-1999, producing 400,000 tons of coal per year.[1][2] PCCC was reportedly unable to find prospective buyers for this coal, and OSMRE denied a new permit for the mine in September 2010.[2]
In September 2017 an Environmental Impact Statement (EIA) was issued for Pacific Coast Coal Company's proposal to reopen the mine.[3] In April 2018 a permit to re-open it was issued by OSMRE.[1]
