Background
In September 2021, security efforts at the plant were amped up in response to "an act of sabotage that occurred in the Aragua state substation" according to Corpoelec.[13] As of October 2021, the plant was still only operating with unit 1 and the local community was continuing to suffer from electrical instability.[14]
In September 2022, another explosion completely knocked out power generation at the Josefa Camejo power station.[15] Service was reportedly restored within 24 hours[16]; however, subsequent reports indicated that the plant was still out of service more than a week later.[17][18]
As of September 20, 2022, units 1 and 3 of the plant were reportedly operating again.[19]
