Background
The Kakanj cement plant was originally constructed by investor GIK "Hidrogradnja" Sarajevo. In 1990, workers voted to separate from the company, and the plant operated as a single shareholder company from then on. in 2000, the plant was purchased by HeidelbergCement, which was followed by numerous upgrades including improved environmental protection, a new coal mill, and a new quarry in 2005.
