Background on Mine

The Kakatiya Khani-3 Incline Underground coal mine of 0.572 million-tonnes-per-annum capacity spread over 277.70 Ha is located in Village and Mandal Bhupalpalli, District Jayashanker Bhupalpalli, Telangana, India.

The mine initially received its permission to operate with a capacity of 0.3 MTPA and further received an expansion to operate with a capacity of 0.576 MTPA on an area of 277.70 Ha. The environment Clearance for the expansion project was received on 26 July 2007[3]

This project was later converted from Underground to Opencast mine and renamed as Kakatiyakhani Opencast sector-1 Project with an expanded capacity of 1.5 MTPA over an area of 306.92 Ha. The project received its environment clearance from MoEF&CC on 1 May 2008.[4]

This project is part of the cluster of mines operated by SCCL in Bhupalpalli Area in Jayashanker Bhupalpalli district of Telangana State. The project mainly supplies coal to Kakatiya Power Station.
