Background
In March 2025, Yuanlin Energy Investments announced plans to build a 600 MW thermal power plant in Kalungwizi, in the Binga district of Matabeleland North province. The power plant would reportedly supply the national grid. The company had contracted a local environmental consulting firm to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), and requested that public comments on the proposed coal plant be submitted by April 3, 2025.[1]
