Background
The Kangalassk (or Kangalassky) Coal Mine (разрез Кангаласский) is an operating surface coal mine in Sakha Republic, Russia. The Kangalassk coal mine is owned by Yakutugol Holding Company JSC, a subsidiary of Mechel.[2]
Kangalassky coal mine is located on the left bank of the Lena River, 45 kilometers north from Yakutsk.[3] Coal produced by the mine is sold to boiler plants in Yakutia.[3] The mine is accessible through an all-weather road from Kangalassy and through a highway from Yakutsk.[3]
At its peak the mine produced about 0.6 million tonnes in the early 1990s.[4] In 2019-2021, its production was about 0.2 million tonnes per annum.[3]
No 2022 production figure is available. Yakutugol Holding Company also owns and operates Dzhebariki-Khaya coal mine and Neryungrinsky coal mine. Total 2022 production of the company was 4 million tonnes.[5]
