Background

In March 2021, the Russian government published its federal LNG program which listed Kara LNG as a possible project.[3] The LNG terminal's projected production is 30 million ton per year.[1]

As of February 2022, the project was expected to come online between 2030 and 2035.[2]

In November 2023, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a decree liberalizing export of LNG which may speed up development of this project.[5]

Although there have been no updates related to the terminal since February 2022, this project is still considered proposed since it is expected to come online in 2030 at the earliest.
