Karmol Dakar FSRU is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal under construction in Senegal.[1] The FSRU provides gas to the Karpowership (Senegal) Aysegul Sultan power station.[2]
Location
The terminal is located in Port Dakar, Senegal.[2]

- Location: Port Dakar, Dakar, Senegal[2]
- Coordinates: 14.6893, -17.4323 (exact)
- Capacity: 2.5 mtpa[1]
- Status: Construction[1]
- Type: Import[2]
- FID status:
- Financing: US$71 million loan from JBIC and MUFG (2023)[6], US$60 million for LNG facility and associated power plant from Mauritius Commercial Bank (2021)[7]
- Associated infrastructure: Karpowership (Senegal) Aysegul Sultan power station
Note: mtpa = million tonnes per year; bcfd = billion cubic feet per day
Background
Karmol Dakar FSRU is a floating LNG import vessel connected to the 236-MW Karpowership power plant, another vessel. The terminal has an import capacity of 15 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d)(0.11 mtpa) with the potential of being expanded to 300 MMcf/d (2.28 mtpa). This integrated, floating complex will serve critical shore-based grids in Senegal. The vessel is described as the world's first modular LNG FSRU.[2]
In May 2022, the vessel was completed, but the project had not yet begun operation.[2]
The annual IGU report released in June 2024 states that the facility is still under construction.[5]
Financing
In April 2021, the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) granted US$60 million in financing for the LNG-to-power project in Senegal including the LNG terminal and associated power station.[7]
In January 2023, KARMOL received a loan from the Japanese banks JBIC and MUFG for US$71 million to finance the project.[6]
