Background on Mine
The Kathautia Coal Mine has a designed capacity of 0.8 MTPA on mining lease area of 938.27 ha is located in villages Kathautia, Kajri, Garikhas, Palhekhurd, Sakhui, Sika and Batsara, Tehsil Patan, District Palamau, State Jharkand, India.
The mine was first allotted to Usha Martin Limited for which the environment clearance was obtained on 19 June 2006. Usha Martin operated the mine and extracted 2.084 MT coal till 31 March 2014.[3] However, the mine was cancelled by Supreme Court in wake of the coalgate scam and further allotted by Ministry of Coal on 23 March 2015 to Hindalco Industries Limited and the Environment Clearance was trasferred on 10 June 2015[4] In FY 2017-2018 Hindalco achieved 0.80 Million Tonnes production. In FY 2018-19 it achieved 0.798. Presently the project is running with full capacity.[5]
