Background

The Kayerkansky-2 Coal Mine (Кайерканский-2 разрез) is an operating surface coal mine in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. The Kayerkansky-2 coal mine is a surface coal mine. It is owned and operated by Norilski Obespechivayushchi Kompleks LLC (ООО Норильский обеспечивающий комплекс), a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel.[1]

It produces about 150,000 tons of coal per year. About half of this amount is used to power the massive Norilsk Nickel plant, and half is used for heating purposes in the area. The mine also produces about 600,000 tons of sandstone and 750,000 tons of limestone per year.[2][3][4]

As per Norilsk Nickel's 2023 annual report, the mine was operating. The field has been supplying the Polar Division of the Company with raw materials for technological technological additives in the process metallurgical processes at metallurgical and for construction works.[6]
