Background

Starting in 2006, the Kinnegad plant began incorporating alternative fuels, such as meat and bone meal (MBM), into its production process. By 2021, the facility achieved a 75% replacement rate of traditional fossil fuels with alternative sources, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

In April 2018, Breedon Group plc acquired Lagan Group (Holdings) Limited, including the Kinnegad facility, for £455 million, thereby integrating the plant into its portfolio.

In April 2020, Breedon Group temporarily suspended operations at the Kinnegad plant in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the safety of its workforce.

In 2024, Breedon Group announced a solar project at the Kinnegad plant, aiming to generate 14 MWp of solar power. Scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2025, this initiative is expected to make the plant self-sufficient in energy during peak solar periods, aligning with Breedon's sustainability goals.
