The mine provides power to the 750 MW Kogan Creek power station.[4] The Kogan Creek mine is operated by CS Energy. Kogan Creek Mine is an open cut mine located in the Surat Basin of Southern Queensland, approximately 15km south of the township of Brigalow.

Kogan Creek power station is a single-unit coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 750 MW. The plant was completed in 2007.[5] An A$90 million overhaul of the plant was conducted between July 2019 and September 2019.[6]
