Background

A 2021 report financed by the Energy Community (EC) stated: "There are plans for a gas pipeline interconnection between Kosovo* and North Macedonia and/or Albania. Based on a prefeasibility study completed in 2020, the interconnection with the Greek network through North Macedonia appears preferable and is being further evaluated through the Western Balkans Investment Framework."[4]

According to a July 2021 policy brief, the Kosovo-North Macedonia Gas Pipeline was "submitted for approval to the EC as projects of interest and are currently part of the draft list of projects of high interest in the EC."[3]

In September 2021, the Kosovo Minister of Economy announced that the government needed more information in order to be sure that constructing gas infrastructure was its best option, discontinuing its plans to move forward on some gas infrastructure in Kosovo, and potentially lessening the likelihood of gas being used in the country.[5]

On October 5, 2021, Balkan Green Energy News reported that "Kosovo* suspended the development of the project."[2]
