Background

Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy Coal Mine (Краснобродский Южный разрез) is a surface mine in Kemerovo, Russia.

It is not to be confused with Krasnobrodsky coal mine (run by a different company, Kuzbassrazrezugol), which is located both to the north and to the south of the Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy mine. It is not to be confused with Krasnobrodsky coal mine (run by a different company, Kuzbassrazrezugol), which is located both to the north and to the south of the Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy mine.

Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy LLC owns and operates the mine.[4]

The metallurgical coal is consumed both domestically and exported to European and Asian markets.[4]

The mine closed because of a bankruptcy in 2019, but then reopened and continued to operate in 2020.[5] In the first half of 2020, it produced 215 thousand tonnes, and increased deliveries of met coal to domestic users.[5] There was an auction to sell off the remaining assets of the mine in the second half of 2020.[6] It appeared that the property of the mine was acquired by Draizen LLC in late 2020.[7]

Bankruptcy proceedings appeared to be still ongoing, as of October 2023.[8][9] But it was not clear if the mine is producing. A media source from April 2023 mentioned that the company generated revenues during 2022, it is therefore possible that the mine is producing.[8]
