Background
In 1990, with the commissioning of the Kumkol Oil Field, the Kumkol-Karakoin pipeline was constructed to transport Kumkol oil to the Pavlodar-Shymkent pipeline. One thread with a diameter of 530 mm and a maximum capacity of 6 mtpa was designated for transporting Siberian oil to Kumkol, while the second thread with a diameter of 720 mm and a maximum capacity of 8 mtpa was for transferring the resulting mixture to Karakoin. The oil is blended with Siberian oil in a ratio of 30 to 70% to reduce the freezing temperature. On November 28, 2014, KazTransOil launched a new thread of the Kumkol-Karakoin oil pipeline passing through the territory of the Karaganda region. The total length of the pipeline was 198.9 km, spanning from the starting point at 0 km to the B. Dzhumagaliyev Pumping Station.[1] The three pipelines run parallel to each other.
