Background

Kumyskuduk Coal Mine (Кумыскудукский разрез) is a SURFACE mine in Karaganda region, Kazakhstan. The mine is owned and operated by SatKomir JSC. The company used to be owned by SAT and Company, which sold the asset in 2012.[3] As of 2017, the sole shareholder of SatKomir was KazCoal Investments PTE Ltd (Singapore).[4][5]

The mine's capacity was stated at 1 million tonnes per annum[6][7], although actual production has been lower with 0.5 Mt in 2021.[8]

In 2021, the company published a mine liquidation plan after 2026, referring to a contract that runs until 2026.[8] The plan shows forecast production levels of 0.8Mt during 2023-2026.[8]
