Background
Kyzyl-Bulak Coal Mine is a surface mine in Kyzyl-Bulak, Osh Region, Kyrgyzstan.[3] Parity Coal LLC owns the mine, the mine began operating in 1993 and produces thermal, subbituminous coal.[2][4]
In 2013 the mine produced 0.479 million tonnes of coal.[4]
In 2018 it was reported that the mine started coal exports to China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.[5]
A media article from 2022 referred to the production of over 0.5 million tonnes per annum from a mine operated by Parity Coal.[6] Parity Coal was also named as the one having contributed the most to the national budget among the coal producing companies in 2022.[7]
According to national statistical data, 0.87 million tonnes was produced in 2021 and 0.97 million tonnes in 2022 in the Osh region where the Kyzyk-Bulak coal mine is located.[8] In 2023 this increased to over 1 million tonnes.[8] However it is not known whether this captures any other operating coal mines in the Osh region.
In August 2024 it was reported that Parity Coal launched the first in Kyrgyzstan coal enrichment facility. From 2004 to 2023, as a result of coal mining at the Kyzyl-Bulak deposit, more than 1 million tons of small coal particles and a mixture with soil (dumps) accumulated. In order to process the accumulated mixture and obtain enriched coal, a mining and processing plant was built. The plant’s capacity is up to 1.2 thousand tons per day, which is equivalent to 36 thousand tons of clean enriched coal per month.[9][10]
