Linc Energy
Linc Energy is a Brisbane-headquartered company which has proposed to develop a "commercial Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) to Gas to Liquids (GTL) operation" in the Arckaringa Basin.[1]
Projects
Alaska
In January 2011, Linc Energy Ltd announced that it had been awarded the full 181,414 acres of underground coal gasification leases that it sought from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, which granted the Alaska exploration licenses for an undisclosed sum. Linc says the decision came after over six months of geological assessment and tender submissions, and that the company will "aggressively" conduct coal exploration for underground coal gasification over the next two years. Linc Energy posted a net loss of $16.26 million in the 2010 financial year.[2]
Wyoming
In September 2014 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved an aquifer exemption for a coal gasification pilot project proposed by Linc Energy in Campbell County, Wyoming, saying the aquifer did not serve as a source of drinking water. In 2013, regulators in the Australian state of Queensland found elevated levels of benzene, ammonia and other contaminates in groundwater near a similar facility operated by Linc. The EPA said it reviewed the Queensland findings and concluded that they did not provide any information that should be factored into the exemption request, as the geology and technology used in Queensland was different.[3]
