Background

The project was included in the 2015-2024 supply plan for PT PLN. It is also in the 2017-2026 plan as an independent power project (IPP).[1][2] In the 2018-2027 long-range plan the project is delayed until 2027, effectively shelving it.[3] In the 2019-2028 long-range plan the project is scheduled for 2025/2026.[4]

In June 2021, the Indonesian government announced that it would no longer allow construction of coal-fired power stations after 2025 and updated its plans for many coal-fired projects under development. The Lombok-3 power station is now planned to be powered by a mixture of energy sources, including gas and renewable energy, and excluding coal, with a target operating date of 2026/2027.[5]
