Background

The Longview Coal Mine is a underground operation, owned by AMCI, Itochu, POSCO, and JAZ located in Barbour County, West Virginia, United States. The $450 million coking coal mine project is located near to Arch Coal’s Leer coal mine.

In January 2020, the project found backing from Japan’s Itochu Corp., as the trader joins AMCI and South Korean steelmaker Posco with plans to support coal demand in Asia.

The group under developer North Central Resources LLC (NCR) intends to ramp up shipments to global markets in 2023, with Japan, South Korea, and India currently among the largest US met coal export destinations.

In March, 2021, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation signed a loan agreement up to to USD56 million with ITC-NCR, LLC (ITC-NCR), a US company wholly owned by ITOCHU Corporation (ITOCHU), for the development of the Longview coking coal mine.
