Background
The M. V. Frunze Coal Mine is an underground coal mine in Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine. The M. V. Frunze coal mine is an underground coal mine. It used to be owned and operated by DTEK Rovenky Anthracite LLC[1], a subsidiary of DTEK Energy B.V. DTEK lost control of the company in 2017[2] and eventually the control over the mine transitioned to Republic Fuel Company Vostokugol State Enterprise[3], owned by the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of the unrecognized Luhansk People's Republic.
As of January 2024 it was not clear if the mine is operating. In February 2024, a coal trading company "Donskiye Ugli" signed an agreement with the government of the Lugansk People's Republic on the lease of five mines including the Frunze coal mine with a view to increase coal production. On this basis it appeared that the mine is operating, although there are severe problems with staff. [4]
