The Malahleni coal mine was a small surface mine owned and operated by Silver Unicorn Coal and Mineral Resources (Pty) Limited (now known as Silver Unicorn Trading 33 (Pty) Limited) in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa.[1][2]
As of December 2020, the colliery was reportedly in the decommissioning phase, and as such, is now closed.[3]

Background
Mining activities at Malahleni Colliery took place on portions 5, 12 and the remaining extent of the farm Ongezien 365 JS, situated within the Magisterial District of Middelburg Mpumalanga Province.[3] Although the mining right includes a total of 668 hectares of farmland, the colliery only used 100 hectares of land with estimated reserves of 6 million tons of coal.[2] It produced mainly B-grade and lower grades of coal.[2] Silver Unicorn acquired ownership of the mine in 2003.[2]
