Background
In February 2021, this project was licensed by the Flemish environmental ministry, and is scheduled to begin construction in 2023.[6] Eneco highlights that this plant will be able to "switch to green hydrogen in the medium term, as soon as the sustainable production of this fuel and possibilities for the storage and transport are sufficient.[7]
In September 2023, it was reported that Eneco had abandoned this project stating that "The plant is no longer part of our strategy to be CO2 neutral by 2035 and we are looking for other forms of sustainable flexibility."[8]
