Background
The Manzanillo Power Land power station, along with the Manzanillo Gas & Power and Manzanillo Energy power stations, is one of three large gas-fired power plants under development near Manzanillo, in the northwestern corner of the Dominican Republic.[16] Dominican president Luis Abinader attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant in December 2022.[16][17][18] The project is scheduled for completion in 2026.[16]
As of March 2024, according to an article published by Dominican Today, the Manzanillo Power Land project had made "significant strides in construction, including the establishment of local control rooms for turbogenerators, a centralized control room, sewage collection treatment systems, a 295,000-foot tube well, structural foundations for the ACC-Air Cooled Condenser, and foundations for the HRSG Heat Recovery Steam Generation."[19] The same article confirmed that the plant's gas turbine (SGT6-8000H, 269 MW) and steam turbine (SST6, 144 MW), both manufactured by Siemens Energy, had arrived on site.[19] Progress has also been made in other areas related to the project, including transmission line infrastructure.[19]
Subsequent news reports in 2024 confirmed that construction was well underway and estimated that the plant would be ready to begin commercial operations between May 2025[20] and July 2025.[21]
