Background
In 2007 several sources, including Brazil's Globo news agency and Portuguese energy company EDP (Energias de Portugal), reported that Energias do Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of EDP, would invest US$450 million in a new 350MW coal-fired power plant in São Luís de Maranhão, Brazil.[1][2] As of 2013, the project was still included in the Platts database of proposed coal plants,[3] but it appears to have been cancelled, as there have been no further news reports about the project.
