Background

The plant is one of the oldest hydroelectric plants in the US, built in 1887. In 2021, Albany Engineering Corporation decided to begin mining Bitcoin, as at that time, it could make three times as much money doing so than selling its power to National Grid. The plant has been nominated to join the National Register of Historic Places.
