Background
In January 2018, Addis Standard reported that the plant would be one hundred percent self-financed by Turkish Industry Holding and its co-partner AKSA Energy.[3]
The company plans to invest 750 million Euros, enabling it to have its own Industrial Zone in Mekelle city of Addigudam region. The Turkish holding’s total investment in its own industrial zone in the Mekelle region is planned to be established on over 484ha of land, employing 2800 people.[3] The first phase of this private industrial zone shall consist of four main factories, and the second and third phases will follow after the completion and operation of the first phase. In total, the zone shall consist of three phases and will accommodate 11 factories.[3] The industrial park shall use 135 MW of the energy it will produce. When completed, the surplus will be provided to the government for local consumption or the export market.[3]
There have been no updates since 2018, so the project is considered canceled.
