Background
The Mereenie oil field and associated infrastructure were initially owned and operated by Santos Limited.[2] On September 2015, Central Petroleum purchased the remaining 50% interest from Santos Limited.[2][5] In 2016, the Macquarie Group Ltd. acquired Santo's 50% share of the Mereenie oil and gas field and of the Mereenie to Alice Springs oil pipeline.[2] Later, Central sold 50% of its interest to Echelon Resources Group. In 2024, Macquarie sold its interest to Echelon and Horizon oil.[2]
