Background on Mine

The Mugoli Nirguda Extension Deep Opencast Coal Mine of 4.375 MTPA on 1317.55 ha is located in Village Mungoli-Nirguda, Tehsil Wani, District Yavatmal in the State of Maharashtra state, India.

The Mugoli Nirguda Extension Deep Opencast Coal Mine project is an expansion of the existing mines. Two Project Reports namely Mungoli OCP (year 1994) & Nirguda OCP (year 1998) for a target capacity of 0.80 Mty & 0.75 Mty respectively were prepared in the geological block. Later on both the mines were amalgamated for operational convenience on April 3, 2003. The amalgamated Mungoli - Nirguda OC mine produced 3.06 Mt coal in 2010-11 and with this target production, the balance life of mine was about 5 to 6 years. Coal reserves were available in the dip side beyond the approved PR limits but additional drilling was required for proving coal reserves. Further exploration was done in the block and a Geological Report namely "Geological Report on Coal Exploration Mungoli-Nirguda Combined Block, Wardha Valley Coalfields" was prepared in March 2011 by CMPDI. The Mugoli OC Expansion Project for a production capacity of 4.00 MTPA and total leasehold area of 818.05 Ha. got its Environmental Clearance vide letter No. J- 11015/299/2010-IA.II(M) Dated 30/03/2011. Further Mugoli Nirguda Extension Deep OC Project for a production capacity of 4.375 MTPA and total area of 1317.55 ha, received its environment clearance on 26 February, 2020. The life of mine as of today stands at 15 years from now.
