Naveen Jindal
Naveen Jindal is the Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and Chairman of Jindal Power Limited. He is also a member in the Indian parliament as a Congress party representative of the Kurukshetra Parliamentary Constituency in the state of Haryana.[1]
Naveen Jindal is the youngest son of the late O.P. Jindal, who founded the company and was a Minister for Power in the government of Haryana.[1]
A biographical note states that for Naveen Jindal "weeding out corruption, women’s empowerment, population stabilisation, aiming for a hunger free society, promotion of sports at all levels, advocating a clean environment and providing health and educational facilities in his constituency top his political agenda. His ideology is to incorporate best practices of business management into politics."[1]
Trip to Australia
In May 2011 Jindal traveled to Australia as head of a delegation of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry. The delegation, which met the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard,[2] and the Premier of New South Wales, Barry O'Farrell. A media release announcing the trip stated that the delegation -- which included a representative from Coal India - would aim "to pave way for forging ahead and strengthening relationships in the Energy, Coal, Oil & Gas, Metal & Mining, Agriculture, Dairy and Tourism space."[3]
Following the Australia-India Joint Ministerial Commission, the joint statement of the uatralian and Indian Ministers announced that they had decided to launch of the CEO Forum with Naveen Jindal as co-chair with his Australian counterpart being Lindsay Fox. The first meeting of the CEO Forum is slated for later in 2011. The joint statement stated that the Ministers "emphasised the value of the Forum as a means to integrate business perspectives and insights into the development of the bilateral economic relationship."[4]
The joint statement reported that the Ministers "discussed the ways in which Australian resources and energy exports to India serve as a crucial motor of Indian economic growth."[4]
