From 2000 to 2013, Netherlands more than doubled its gas production to 50 billion cubic metres annually, according to the inspector general of the State Mines Surveillance (SoDM) service. The number of earthquakes also increased: there were 110 earthquakes in the country between 1991 and 2000, but the frequency had risen to 500 total between 2000 and 2013.[1]
